Rock music became more popular in the 1980s thanks to the introduction of new bands and styles. Hard rock bands like Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith, and AC/DC, as well as heavy metal bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden, gained attention. Alternative rock also emerged, with bands like R.E.M. and Violent Femmes mixing punk and folk music. By the late '80s, alternative rock included various styles, from quirky pop to noise and Grunge.
